Wounded Warrior Project fund raiser

Why did I choose Wounded Warrior Project?

I have been asked multiple times why I choose Wounded Warrior Project as the organization I wanted to do a fund raiser for. It was an easy decision. First of all I am a 21 year veteran of military service. I have seen many things in my time, but this isn’t about me. It is about those who have so freely given and suffered for us all.
The WWP assists wounded service members in transitioning back into a life away from the military. I can not imagine what it must be like to come home seriously wounded, missing a limb, with serious internal injuries, head injuries or not being able to get the nightmare vision off your mind. These brave men and women have seen so much and freely sacrificed for each of us in the free world. They come home to a hospital without any fan fare, without a parade in their honor and many times without even a thank you. They are heroes, true heroes and deserve so much more. The tragedy in the Gulf with the oil spill, flooding in Nashville, earthquakes around the world, tornadoes throughout the heartland all continue to make the headlines. Through all of this our Wounded Warriors continue to come home without even a mention. It saddens me so very deeply when I think about the long road of recovery they face.
We at TLN Motors ports took on this project in hopes of raising awareness and funds for this outstanding organization. We were and are still hoping to be able to spread the word far and wide about the need and what WWP stands for. What I have received while doing this is amazing. I have been told stories from contributors about the contributions and sacrifices of their relatives and friends. It does my heart good to see how much that means to each of them. I also have found myself challenged by a service member who was participating in a WWP event in New York. His comment was we needed to find what it is that motivates someone to get out of the bed, what it tales to get back into life. If you can run, walk, use a hand bike or however participate and finish a race, then you can use that same motivation to take a class, start a business or whatever it takes.
Those comments challenged me. The struggles of TLN Motorsports have been well documented this season. We are still World Record holders, but we have been counted out by the competition. We are drowning in red ink and it has been day to day whether we will even survive as a race team. We do not know if we will be able to compete again after Maine as our funds will be gone and then some. I had let myself become discouraged. I am 10 lbs heavier than last year and my motivation had been lacking. The feeling was that I just didn’t know where to turn. I quickly realized how well off I am. How lucky I have it. I have the ability to get on a race bike and Chase the God of Speed to oblivion. We are a multiple World Record holding team. It took the words of one of our wounded heroes to inspire me to get up and get my head back in the game. I am training hard and making sure everything will be perfect for our event in Maine. Thanks to the words of someone I want to help, I am being blessed.
That being said, it is not about me, our race team, any sponsor or anything else but those how have sacrificed for us. If you can go our website tlnmotorsports.com and follow the link to the WWP fund raiser. Give what you can. Any amount helps. You can give $5.00 by text message. What you give will be used to help those who have given so much for our freedom. Please, if you can, help us help those who have given so feely for us all.
